Probate is a legal process whereby the Executor receives legal recognition of their appointment to the post and there is further recognition that the Will submitted to the Probate Registry is the Last Will and Testament of the deceased. Grants are issued by the Probate Registry which is a part of the Family Division of the High Court. There are several different Registries and Sub-Registries around the country. The Grant of Probate (more properly called a Grant of Representation) is the paper document confirming the acceptance of the will and the appointment of the executor.
