Tips on Elderly Care in Devon, Somerset, Cornwall and Dorset
For many, the big freeze is nothing but fun with schools being closed, school children (and teachers) enjoying an extended Christmas across Devon, Somerset, Cornwall and parts of Dorset. However, for many elderly relatives, this cold front is a source of many problems.
Here at LCS we have a large number of elderly clients who have used our will writing services and we thought that a few tips on keeping warm (and some cost saving ideas) may be helpful at this time. Some of fairly obvious but one or two of these we have discovered ourselves this year, firstly the most obvious ones:
- Wear many layers if a warm jumper or cardigan is not doing the trick. Our ladies in the office have also suggested tights under trousers with a further pair of socks to keep feet and toes warm
- If you are using coal or log fires to help keep warm this winter, consider asking friends, neighbours and family for shredded paper to use as kindling if needed (a recent discovery of ours). This is much cheaper than buying in fire lighters
- For those with home care keep in touch with the nursing agency if your healthcare worker is unable to visit. There is always a friendly voice at the end of a phone
- If you need to go out, please do listen to your local radio to find out what the road conditions are there is still a lot of black ice on roads and pavements
- For those with dogs who need walking, try and go out with a friendly neighbour, family member or friend. Make walks during the middle part of the day where possible when temperatures are at their maximum
- Keep doors to your warmer rooms shut to keep the heat in
- Finally you cant beat a bowl of good old-fashioned porridge in the morning to warm you up and keep you going
